Bakery Manager - New World Mt Albert

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with entrepreneurial energy, a sharp eye for what customers want, and the ambition to build a reputation as more than just a supermarket bakery.

About the role

Reporting to the Fresh Foods Manager, you'll take full ownership of the day-to-day running of our bakery, from range and production through to sales, margin, staffing and food safety. You'll have the freedom to shape the department and try new things, and the accountability to make it perform.

What you'll be doing

• Leading and developing the bakery team to hit sales, wage and gross profit targets
• Planning production and range so the cabinet stays full, fresh and appealing all day
• Bringing new ideas, products and seasonal lines to grow the department and excite customers
• Sourcing and ordering through approved suppliers, managing levels to maximise sales and minimise waste
• Building eye-catching displays and merchandising that invite purchases
• Using sales and financial data to spot trends, act early and drive performance
• Owning food safety and health & safety in the department, keeping standards high every day
• Recruiting, rostering, training and developing your team, with succession and growth in mind

What we're looking for

• Hungry for a new challenge or a step up, and ready to make a department your own
• A passion for great baking and catering to what customers want
• Comfortable working with numbers and using data to make decisions
• A stickler for food safety, quality and presentation
• Department management or supervisory experience in a supermarket or similar (bakers looking to step up welcome)
• Computer literate and confident learning our systems (SAP experience an advantage)

Handy to have: a bakery qualification or trade background, NZQA Level 3, Unit Standards 167, 168 and 497, solid English and maths, and a clean driver's licence.
