Butchery, Chicken, Seafood Buyer

The Role:
Gilmours North Shore is seeking a passionate and dedicated protein specialist to own the meat, chicken and seafood buying and merchandising in the business. Reporting to the General Manager, the successful applicant will have overall responsibility for the execution of their department. This is an amazing opportunity to leverage the internal support, customer base and new facilities to grow the protein category for the business. The “centre of the plate” is critical to our customers and therefore a key growth opportunity for the business.
The role will involve managing buying applications and working with suppliers to ensure we have constant availability of key lines at the right price for both our in store and delivery customers. In addition, there is the opportunity to add additional product lines to meet industry trends and customer demand.
The role is also hands on, working with a team to merchandise the products to ensure they are displayed to the highest standards to exceed the customer experience expectations, maximize in store sales and present the brand and business in the best possible light.
About You:
Product and or buying experience is necessary. Ideally from a butchery, chicken or seafood background, a passion for the product and the foodservice industry is highly desired. The following attributes are key requirements to be successful in the role:
- Strong communication (verbal and written), relationship management, negotiation, and networking skills.
- Strong analytical skills and strategy development, computer literate.
- Ambitious, motivating, results orientated supervisor.
- Leading from the front by demonstrating and living the Gilmours values. With the ability to listen, advise and come up with commercially, customer driven, solutions.
- Previous management of staff would be ideal but just as important is someone that wants to develop their leadership ability.
- SAP systems experience
- Strong relationship builder, team player and problem solver.
- Have a valid work permit or NZ Citizen.
- Meticulous with detail and systems, constantly seeking efficiencies within buying and merchandising processes.
- Good physical fitness.
- A health and safety mindset.
