New World Milford is a locally owned store, proud to serve our community with quality, consistency, and exceptional service. We’re looking for an experienced Butchery Manager to lead our butchery team and drive excellence through professionalism, expertise, and a hands-on approach.

About the Role

As Butchery Manager, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operation of our butchery department. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be involved in all aspects of the department, from cutting and presentation through to team leadership and compliance.

You will work closely with the store leadership team to ensure the department operates smoothly, efficiently, and to consistently high standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and supporting a small team of butchers and assistants
  • Ensuring consistently high standards of product quality and presentation
  • Managing ordering, stock control, and minimising waste
  • Meeting department sales, gross profit, and wage targets
  • Maintaining pricing accuracy and supporting promotional activity
  • Delivering friendly, knowledgeable customer service
  • Ensuring all food safety, compliance, and health & safety standards are met
  • Working collaboratively with other departments across the store

What We’re Looking For

You’re an experienced butcher who leads by example and takes pride in running a well‑organised, customer‑focused department.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ butchery experience at a supervisory level
  • Previous retail experience at a supervisory level or prior department management experience
  • Strong knowledge of meat cuts, preparation, and food safety requirements
  • A practical, hands‑on leadership style suited to a retail butchery environment
  • Computer literacy and confidence using retail systems
  • Good organisational and time‑management skills
  • FMCG or food retail experience
  • Physical fitness and the ability to meet the demands of the role
  • Good written and spoken English, with clear communication skills
  • Sound basic maths skills

Required certifications and licences:

  • Qualified Butcher
  • Unit Standards 167, 168, and 497
  • Food safety certification
  • Clean driver’s licence
  • Experience with Foodstuffs systems
