Butchery Operations Assistant Manager

Our Butchery team is one of the busiest areas in store, and we’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering an outstanding fresh food experience for our customers.

The Role;

As our Butchery Operations Assistant Manager (2IC), you’ll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of a fast-paced department. You’ll work closely with the Butchery Manager to help lead one of the busiest departments in store, ensuring the department remains full, fresh, organised, and customer focused at all times.

This role is perfect for someone with strong butchery or fresh food experience who enjoys leading by example, thrives under pressure, and takes pride in delivering high standards. From overseeing stock flow and merchandising to supporting team development and food safety compliance, no two days will be the same!

You’ll help lead from the front by supporting the team on the floor, coaching team members, and ensuring the department runs smoothly day-to-day.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who enjoys working alongside their team in a fast-moving environment.

You’ll be helping process high volumes of product each week while maintaining exceptional quality, presentation, and operational standards.

The position is 45 hours per week, with the roster to be negotiated at interview stage.

What are we looking for;

• Previous butchery, fresh food, or food retail experience
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience
• A positive, can-do attitude with a “lead by example” approach
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• A reliable team player who values customer service, teamwork, and safety
• Ability to assist with stock control, merchandising, and operational processes
• Physically fit and comfortable working in a hands-on environment
• Ability to comply with strict food safety and health & safety procedures
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and have the right to work in New Zealand
