New World Pioneer is a large-format, locally owned and operated supermarket in Palmerston north. With a team of 200+ staff, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional customer service every day.

We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic café 2ic to join our café team. This role is ideal for an experienced barista with leadership skills, or a senior barista ready to step into a management pathway.

Hours of work

This is a full-time position working five days per week, Sunday to Thursday.
you will have every Friday and Saturday off.

shift times are:
Sunday to Wednesday: 6:30am – 3:30pm
Thursday: 6:30am – 2:30pm

About the role

You will support the café manager in the day-to-day running of the department while remaining hands-on in service. responsibilities include:

• supporting the café manager with daily operations
• preparation of food and café items
• leading, supporting and managing a small team
• making high-quality coffees in a busy environment
• stock control, stock taking and ordering
• maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards
• assisting with rosters and other operational needs
• delivering excellent customer service and building relationships with regular customers

About you

We are looking for someone who brings energy, reliability and a passion for café service. you will be able to demonstrate:

• barista training and confidence on a coffee machine
• solid café experience in a fast-paced environment
• leadership skills or the desire to step into a leadership role
• strong communication skills with staff and customers
• good organisation and time management
• the ability to adapt and problem-solve throughout the day
• a tidy work style and attention to detail
• a positive, upbeat attitude and strong customer focus
• the ability to work well within a team and independently
• willingness to learn lotto and gelato
