New World Browns Bay has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Checkout 2IC to join our team. This is a key leadership role where you will help drive customer experience excellence and support the day-to-day success of our Checkout Department.
About the Role
As Checkout 2IC, you will support the Checkout Manager in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and compliant operation of the department. You’ll play a hands-on leadership role—leading from the front, coaching your team, and ensuring every customer leaves with a positive experience.
This is an ideal opportunity for a strong retail supervisor ready to step up into a broader leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a customer-focused checkout team to consistently deliver exceptional service
- Support the day-to-day operation of checkouts, self-checkouts, Lotto, and customer service desk
- Help manage rosters to ensure optimal staffing levels and productivity
- Ensure all cash handling and security procedures are followed accurately
- Handle customer enquiries, feedback, and complaints in a professional and timely manner
- Maintain high standards of presentation, cleanliness, and health & safety compliance
- Undertake Duty Manager responsibilities, including the sale and supply of alcohol
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across customer experience and team performance.

What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in a retail or customer service leadership role
- Previous checkout or front-end supervisory experience (highly desirable)
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a team
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- A genuine commitment to outstanding customer service
- Current Duty Manager’s Certificate (essential)
- Solid understanding of health & safety practices
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
Days are: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Hours to be discussed (approximately 40 hours)
