Checkout Assistant Manager

New World Thorndon is seeking a full-time Assistant Checkout Manager. The successful candidate will work closely with the Checkout Manager to oversee a large team of approximately 50 staff members.

We are looking for someone with a strong focus on people and the ability to lead a team effectively. The ideal applicant should be results-driven and skilled in planning and implementing strategies to achieve desired outcomes. Additionally, they should maintain a customer-focused approach that consistently meets and exceeds expectations. Excellent organisational skills and a cooperative spirit that aligns with the store's values are essential, along with solid retail leadership experience. Preference will be given to those who currently work in the Checkout department at a Supervisor level or above in a supermarket.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working alongside the Checkout Manager and as the Manager in their absent
  • Promptly addressing and resolving all customer inquiries and complaints
  • Effectively implement the business's return policy in all relevant transactions
  • Collaborate with other departments to minimise delays in handling price and stock inquiries
  • Maintain security at the front end to ensure that all products leaving the store are properly paid for
  • Assisting with staff rosters to ensure adequate coverage at all times
  • Ensure that staff members follow checkout processes and procedures
  • Provide all team members as required with a comprehensive induction to the department, along with ongoing training and support
  • Support Supervisors in the daily runnings of the department
