Checkout Manager
New World Ōpōtiki is a thriving, customer-focused supermarket dedicated to providing high-quality products and exceptional service to our community.
We are seeking an outstanding and experienced Checkout Manager to lead our Checkout team. This is a key leadership role responsible for the day-to-day operation of the department, ensuring exceptional customer service, strong team performance, and efficient operational standards. The Checkout Manager will work closely with Store Management and Duty Managers to create a positive shopping experience for our customers while maintaining a high-performing and engaged team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Checkout department to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to the checkout team, fostering a positive team culture and excellent customer service.
- Manage rosters, staffing levels, and productivity to meet operational requirements and wage budgets.
- Oversee cash handling procedures, checkout compliance, and end-of-day balancing processes.
- Handle customer enquiries, concerns, and complaints in a professional and friendly manner.
- Train, develop, and mentor team members to achieve their potential.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, presentation, and cleanliness throughout the checkout area.
- Ensure Health & Safety, food safety, and company policies are adhered to at all times.
- Assist with departmental administration, reporting, and wider store operations as required.
About You

- Previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience, preferably within retail.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Days & Hours
This is a full-time position. Specific days and hours will be discussed during the interview process. Weekend and late-night work will be required as part of the roster.
