About the Role

As Checkout Manager, you will be accountable for the smooth and efficient operation of the Checkout Department. You will lead, mentor, and inspire your team to deliver outstanding customer experiences while ensuring operational excellence and compliance across the department.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a customer-focused checkout team that consistently delivers exceptional service.

     

     

  • Ensure efficient operation of all checkout functions, self-checkouts, Lotto, and customer service areas.

     

     

  • Recruit, train, coach, and performance manage team members.

     

     

  • Manage department rosters to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained.

     

     

  • Monitor and control department wage costs in line with store targets.

     

     

  • Ensure all cash handling procedures are followed accurately and consistently.

     

     

  • Manage customer enquiries, complaints, and feedback professionally and effectively.

     

     

  • Maintain high standards of presentation, housekeeping, and health and safety.

     

     

  • Undertake Duty Manager responsibilities, including responsibility for the sale and supply of alcohol.

     

     

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance both customer experience and team performance.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven leadership experience in a retail or customer service environment.

     

     

  • Previous experience managing or supervising a checkout/front-end team is highly desirable.

     

     

  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop others.

     

     

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

     

     

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

     

     

  • Experience managing rosters and labour costs.

     

     

  • A commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

     

     

  • Current Duty Manager's Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

     

     

  • Solid understanding of health and safety requirements.

     

     

  • Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
