Checkout Supervisor

New World Pioneer is a large, locally owned and operated supermarket in Palmerston North. As a team we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining high standards across every area of our store.

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Checkout Supervisor to join our Checkout leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong customer service skills and leadership experience, or someone ready to take the next step into a supervisory role.

 

About the Role

This is a permanent full-time position working afternoon and evening shifts.

 

As a Checkout Supervisor, you'll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of our busy Checkout department. You'll provide leadership and direction to the team, ensure customers receive friendly and efficient service, and help maintain a smooth and well-organised department.

You'll support team members throughout your shift, assist with resolving customer enquiries, monitor service levels, and ensure company policies and procedures are consistently followed. You'll also act as a key point of contact for the department, helping to create a positive team culture while leading by example.

 

About You

The successful applicant will have:

• Previous supermarket checkout or retail experience
• Leadership or supervisory experience, or the confidence to step into a leadership role
• A passion for delivering exceptional customer service
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
• A positive attitude and the ability to lead by example
• Honesty, reliability, and a strong work ethic
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

A current LCQ and Manager's Certificate would be advantageous, or the willingness and ability to obtain one.

Hours of Work

This is a permanent full-time position working:

 

• Tuesday: 1:30pm – 10:00pm
• Wednesday: 1:00pm – 9:45pm
• Thursday: 1:30pm – 10:00pm
• Friday: 1:00pm – 9:45pm
• Saturday: 1:00pm – 9:45pm
