Compliance and HR Manager

At Gilmours Hamilton we are out here to prove we are the foodservice provider you can trust.

Make your mark in a hands-on role that spans compliance and HR. You’ll help lift health & safety, food safety, and operational discipline across the site—while supporting leaders and teams with practical HR coordination.

Role split: approximately 70% Compliance (H&S / food safety / operational compliance) and 30% HR support.

Summary

  • Role: Compliance Manager & HR Coordinator
  • Location: Gilmours Hamilton
  • Hours: 8:00am–5:00pm, Monday to Friday
  • Pay: Hourly rate, based on experience and qualifications
  • Focus: 70% compliance (H&S / Food Safety / Operational), 30% HR coordination

We’re looking for a Compliance Manager & HR Coordinator who can partner with leaders and teams to keep our site safe, audit-ready, and running to standard- while also helping deliver great people outcomes. You’ll be a visible presence on the floor, confident coaching teams, following up actions, and making sure our systems are practical and working in the real world.

About the role

  • Champion a positive safety culture across the team by leading by example, recognising safe behaviours, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Coach leaders and team members to build safe work practices and strong food safety discipline, with a focus on practical, floor-based support.
  • Own and coordinate site compliance across Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Relevant operational requirements, ensuring Gilmours Hamilton is audit-ready at all times.
  • Maintain and improve H&S and food safety systems (documentation, registers, checklists, training records) and support internal/external audits and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate compliance training and competency tracking (inductions, refreshers, toolbox talks), ensuring expectations are understood across departments.
  • Work closely with H&S Representatives and leaders, supporting meetings, actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage incident reporting and follow-up, support investigations, and coordinate return-to-work/rehabilitation plans as required.
  • Support HR administration and coordination: onboarding, employment documentation, systems updates, training and maintaining accurate people records.
  • Follow up reported hazards, corrective actions, and site safety observations—closing the loop and embedding learning.
  • Provide day-to-day HR support to leaders and team members (policy guidance, basic ER queries, wellbeing support), escalating to the wider People team when needed.
  • Support key site processes including product withdrawals/recalls (where applicable) and complaint follow-up, ensuring actions are documented and completed.

 What we offer

  • Development opportunities designed to grow future leaders across Gilmours and the wider Foodstuffs network.
  • A supportive leadership team and a role with real influence across safety, compliance, and people outcomes.
  • A culture that recognizes and rewards hard work, initiative, and results.
  • Hourly rate review after 12 months’ service (subject to performance and business guidelines).
  • Company phone plan provided (BYO handset).
  • Staff discount: 5%.
  • Long service leave (in line with company policy).

About you

  • Proven experience in Health & Safety, Food Safety, Compliance, and/or quality systems—ideally in FMCG, distribution, logistics, or retail.
  • A solid understanding of NZ health & safety and food safety requirements, with confidence working to standards and audit expectations.
  • Comfortable handling HR coordination tasks (onboarding, documentation, systems and reporting) and supporting leaders with day-to-day people queries.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with a wide range of people on the floor and in leadership.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and discretion when handling sensitive information.

Why this role

You’ll have a genuine opportunity to make practical improvements, influence daily behaviours, and strengthen both compliance and people processes in a busy wholesale environment.
