Responsibilities:

  • Source and select a wide range of grocery products to meet customer demand and sales targets.
  • Analyse market trends, consumer behavior, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure the best prices, terms, and promotional opportunities.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely replenishment of stock to avoid out-of-stock situations.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop effective promotions and merchandising strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier agreements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to foster long-term partnerships and secure favorable terms.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a buyer in the supermarket industry, with a strong understanding of procurement processes and supplier management.
  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to influence and motivate a diverse work force to achieve agreed KPI’s.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence key stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and market trends to make strategic decisions.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound knowledge of SAP and other relevant software applications.
  • Knowledge of the New Zealand grocery market and consumer preferences is preferred.
