Produce Manager

We're looking for an exceptional leader to join our team as Produce Manager — someone with strong fresh food experience, a passion for quality, and the ability to lead a team to deliver an outstanding produce department.

Fresh food experience is a must for this role. We're looking for someone who understands what it takes to manage fresh produce, from quality and presentation through to stock management, availability, food safety and buying. Experience within a supermarket environment would be a significant advantage, but most importantly, you'll need a strong background working with fresh food or produce.

About the role

Our Produce Manager is responsible for leading one of the store's busiest fresh food departments, ensuring our customers enjoy the highest quality fruit and vegetables, well-presented displays, and exceptional service every day.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll use your fresh food knowledge and experience to drive department performance, maintain outstanding quality standards, ensure excellent availability, and build strong relationships with our produce vendors.

You'll lead and develop a team, manage the day-to-day operation of the department, and play a key role in selecting and buying quality produce that delivers value and meets the expectations of our customers.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading, motivating and developing the Produce team to achieve operational excellence.
• Maintaining exceptional standards of freshness, quality, merchandising and product availability.
• Building strong relationships with vendors and staying up to date with seasonal availability, pricing and market trends.
• Driving department performance through sales, productivity, quality and service outcomes.
• Training, coaching and supporting team members to achieve their full potential through development and succession planning.
• Maintaining the highest standards of food safety, health and safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Leading from the front and being hands-on in a busy and demanding fresh food environment.

About you

We're looking for an experienced fresh food professional who understands what it takes to run a successful produce operation. You'll have a strong understanding of fresh food quality, presentation, stock management and food safety, along with the leadership skills to bring your team along with you.

You must have:

• Strong previous experience working in a fresh food or produce environment.
• Experience managing fresh food stock, including ordering, rotation and availability.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• A customer-first mindset and exceptional attention to detail.
• The ability to lead, coach and develop a team.
