Produce Manager

New World Churton Park

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Produce Manager to lead our Produce department and help us build one of the best fresh food offers in Wellington.

This is a key leadership role within our supermarket. You will take responsibility for the overall performance of the department, including sales, presentation, availability, gross profit, wage control, food safety and team development.

Our Produce department is an important part of the customer experience. We are looking for someone who takes pride in outstanding displays, excellent product quality and creating a department that customers want to shop every day.

The role

• Lead, coach and develop the Produce team
• Deliver consistently high standards of presentation, freshness and product quality
• Ensure strong product availability throughout the trading day
• Manage ordering, stock levels, rotation, markdowns and waste
• Drive sales growth through excellent merchandising, seasonal displays and promotional execution
• Manage department gross profit, wages and other key performance measures
• Maintain strong food safety, health and safety and compliance standards
• Build effective relationships with suppliers and the wider store leadership team
• Develop clear routines, responsibilities and performance expectations within the department
• Remain hands on and actively support the team during busy trading periods

About you

• Experience managing or supervising a Produce department in a supermarket or fresh food environment
• Strong product knowledge and an understanding of produce quality, seasonality and merchandising
• Proven experience leading and developing a team
• Good commercial awareness, including sales, margin, waste and wage management
• Strong planning, organisation and communication skills
• A practical and hands on leadership style
• High standards and strong attention to detail
• The ability to remain calm, organised and focused in a busy environment
• A positive attitude and a genuine commitment to customer service

Previous Produce Manager experience would be preferred, although we would also consider an experienced Produce Assistant Manager or Supervisor who is ready to take the next step.
