Retail Manager


Gilmours is seeking a dynamic and experienced Retail Manager to join our team and oversee the daily operations of our warehouse. In this role, you will be responsible for managing retail operations, ensuring excellent customer service, and leading a motivated team to achieve operational targets.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Clearly highlight risks / opportunities to your manager regarding your area of responsibility and anything else you may see in the business and provide proposals to
  • eliminate / capitalise on these
  • Ensuring health and safety are always fully complied with
  • Compliance with all cleaning schedules, and our Food Control Plan
  • Provides professional customer support where required
  • Work closely with the Buyers to ensure stock is managed well and that scrapping, and inventory adjustments are minimized to ensure department Gross Profit bugets are met.
  • Managing the workload and placement of the team (inwards; replen and putaway)
  • Ensure replenishment and putaway is completed within the agreed timeframes to ensure the shop is full clean and tidy at 8am and 5pm daily
  • Ensure all product is accurately ticketed
  • Work closely with the Sales Manager to formulate, implement, and review marketing plans for in-store activations.
  • Run team briefings / toolbox meetings.
  • Check-in with each team member to receive feedback on how they are doing, but also to provide informal feedback on their performance
  • Feed any performance issues back to the Store Manager for them to address
  • Manage staff development through recruitment, training and performance supervision.
  • Ensure the team are well presented and in the appropriate uniform and PPE
  • Ensure the team are working to maintain the retail experience of customers - always striving for excellence and providing exceptional service including being available to assist with queries in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, complying with relevant occupational health and safety standard and guidelines.
  • Ensure overtime is kept to a minimum – so we don’t over-work the team, but also to manage cost.
  • Responsible for the equipment used by the team – forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.

 

Experience

  • Thorough and practical experience working in the grocery or wholesale foods industry
  • Experience in a supervisory role within a medium-large supermarket
  • Previous experience of delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced industry
  • Experience in SAP and WMS is preferred. 

 

Qualifications

  • 3 years secondary schooling / NCEA Level 3 (minimum) or equivalent
  • Management qualification – preferred, but not essential.
