Retail Operations Assistant Manager

PAK'nSAVE Tamatea is looking for a capable and motivated Retail Operations Assistant Manager to take charge of our evening operations and play a key role in delivering the exceptional experience our customers expect. The role:
As Retail Operations Assistant Manager, you'll be responsible for running evening operations, supporting your team to succeed, and making sure every customer has a great experience in-store. This role includes:
Operational Excellence
- Oversee daily operations to ensure smooth delivery and fulfillment of customer promises
- Maintain high merchandising standards to boost customer satisfaction and basket size
- Manage replenishment and minimise out-of-stocks
- Ensure full price accuracy and compliance with safety and hygiene standards
- Implement effective returns and product recall processes
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and motivate your team to deliver results
- Manage and adjust rosters for optimal coverage
- Monitor team performance and foster a customer-first culture
Inventory & Cost Control
- Track inventory and address slow-moving stock
- Minimise waste by managing credits and returns efficiently
- Hold suppliers accountable for damaged or non-compliant goods
- Support promotional execution and manage costs in line with store targets
Visual Merchandising & Store Appeal
- Ensure departments follow best-practice merchandising
- Build eye-catching displays to drive sales
- Maintain strong stock presentation and accurate signage
- Keep the store looking full, clean, and inviting throughout trade
This is a full-time position with specific days and hours to be confirmed during the interview process. One weekend day will be required. As this role oversees evening operations, shifts may fall between 2:30pm and 4am, with no shift exceeding 10 hours.
About you, your skills and expertise:
You’re an experienced, hands-on leader who thrives in a high-energy retail environment. You're not just operationally strong — you’re someone who can influence culture, boost morale, and drive results.
- 5+ years’ experience in retail, FMCG, or supermarket operations
- Experience equivalent to a Department Manager or higher
- Strong leadership and people development skills
- A strategic mind with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
- High attention to detail and pride in store presentation
- A working knowledge of cost control, stock management, and merchandising
- Computer literacy and ideally forklift experience (‘F’ endorsement/OSH certified)
