Scannables Assistant

New World Pioneer is a large, locally owned and operated supermarket in Palmerston North. As a team we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining high standards across every area of our store.

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Scannables Assistant to join our team. This is a varied role within our Scannables department, with the added opportunity to provide relief support to our Floor Management team.

This role would suit someone with supermarket experience who takes pride in presentation, works with purpose, and is confident stepping up to support the wider store when required.

 

About the Role

You'll be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the Scannables department, including filling stock, maintaining presentation standards, merchandising, stock rotation and ensuring the department is well presented and available for our customers.

 

You'll also have the opportunity to step up as a Relief Floor Manager, supporting the overall operation of the store when required. This may include providing direction to team members, assisting departments, monitoring store standards, supporting customer service, and helping ensure the store operates safely and efficiently.

 

Hours of Work

This is a permanent full-time position

 

• Sunday – Liquor: 6:00am – 2:30pm
• Monday – Grocery: 8:30am – 5:00pm
• Tuesday – Grocery: 8:30am – 5:00pm
• Wednesday: 8:30am – 5:00pm

 

About You

The successful applicant will have:

 

• Previous supermarket or retail experience
• A positive, can-do attitude and strong work ethic
• Good attention to detail and high standards of presentation
• The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• The confidence to work independently and support others
• The ability to take initiative and use good judgement
• A flexible approach and willingness to support different areas of the store
• A strong customer-focused mindset
• Reliability and a positive attitude

A current forklift license is required, or you must be willing and able to obtain one.

 

Previous supervisory or leadership experience would be advantageous, but we're also interested in applicants who are ready to take the next step and develop their leadership skills.
